Britney Spears, before and after Photoshopping

If you're reading this blog, you probably know what I'd like to say about this. But I think I'll let the image speak for itself.

They seem to have made everything on her smaller except for her height, so she looks 6 foot tall instead of 5'4. It's like a Barbie effect...

Harriet this is ideal - thank you. I'm going to show this to my tween to help her really understand what she sees in the media.
Did Britney release this? If she did she's a star.

I'm pretty sure she did, PJ.

Being reminded of this kind of thing is so important, considering the bombardment we receive of photoshopped people daily. Thank you for posting this!

If she did, I can see why. She looks better in the original picture than she does in the photoshopped one. They decimated her lower body.

thanks for showing this, Harriet as i try to avoid any images like this at all right now. when a close friend told me that her daughter who is 11 and i can see is a little girl told me she has cellulite (really) it gave me pause. ANYTHING to break up the crap that goes through my head helps. it's so freaking hard.

There's a lot more where this came from. I think I'll do a whole post on photoshopped images. I put some together for a presentation on body image and I think it's really helpful to see the before and after shots.

Harriet, if you don't know, the website jezebel does a whole series on airbrushing atrocities ("photoshop of horrors"). It is well done - and frightfully scary.

I do know--that's where I've gotten most of mine. :) I highly recommend it: jezebel.com.

I remember when this came out. While I'm impressed with the intent, I am not convinced at all that the 'original' photo hadn't already been manipulated to Britney's advantage. I find it endearing that the cellulite on the legs is there and the beginning to sag behind.....but I wonder about that perfectly flat profile of the front. Sorry, but I do not buy that she didn't have a poochy belly or any bulges along the sides or the lower ab area. And if she did/does have that, WHO CARES? She's not 17 any more and she's had 2 kids, not to mention some prety severe mental and emotional issues. She had a hard row to hoe there for a while, and even though it was probably 99% her own doing, it still would have been tough. I'm sorry but takes a physical toll.

But whatever. It's a start at uncovering media manipulation. Somehow I don't expect to see a lot of this kind of "exposing the truth" to come out any time soon. Most of these celebrities owe everything they have to how they look, or at least how they're perceived. I mean, who goes out and willingly slaughters their cash cow?

I think you're right. I've heard that many of the celebrities have their own personal Photoshop wizard, and that they don't allow any unretouched images of themselves to ever be released.

But as you point out, it's a start.
