Book Giveaway: 100 Questions & Answers About Anorexia Nervosa

Dr. Sari Shepphird is one of my favorite "experts." Shepphird, a clinical psychologist from Los Angeles who specializes in treating eating disorders, has a new book out, 100 Questions & Answers About Anorexia Nervosa. The book tackles the complex and confusing subject of eating disorders by posing and answering questions like "Are athletes at greater risk for developing anorexia and eating disorders" and "How do I know if I have a healthy body image?" The book is written for people with anorexia, their friends and families. I admire its clear, practical approach, and think it will be of great help to many.

And I've got a copy to give away! If you'd like to enter the drawing for a free copy of Dr. Shepphird's new book, leave a comment on this post telling me why you're interested in reading it. I'll draw names at random next Monday, March 29.

Good luck!

This sounds great - I'd definitely like to enter, but living in the UK probably excludes me...oh well no harm in trying ;)

I'm interested in reading because I think it would help me understand my own experiences with anorexia better, and enable me to explain things more clearly to family and friends.

Oh man I definitely want to enter for that! I've always dealt with anorexia intuitively, knowing that for me it was brought on by simple self-hatred, but I know it's not that way for everyone, so I'd like to know what the prevalent views are.

I already have a copy (lots of great info--I'd recommend it to anyone), but just wanted to pop in and say, "Hi."

I can think of a fair few doctors who could do with an education on anorexia!! Thats what i'd do with my copy (after reading it and adding in any things from my own experience!).

Maybe one particular psych will then in future refrain from telling (un-diagnosed) anorexic patients who are trying to take the 1st steps to help, that they "are knowledgeable enough about food" and therefore DO NOT need to see a dietician!! (wow, i have a talent in holding grudges!!)

Or i could give my ED nurse some reading, not that she needs any educating, but it might make a nice pressie, to cheer her up after her cat died.

It seems there are lots of reasons to read it now i think about it.

I'm also in the UK if that's okay... I'd *love* to read this book, having suffered from an eating disorder in the past. My wee sister has been trying to recover from anorexia for the last four years and it's just heartbreaking watching her go through this. If I could understand her better, or if she could understand herself better and start to heal... I would do anything to give her some more hope about this.

I would like to add to read and add it to our library's collection - with budget cuts we aren't able to buy as many books as we need, esp. on subjects as important as this one.

I just saw this book on amazon! You are so lucky to have a give-away copy! I'm currently working with foster children as an ED resource person, and I'd love to have the book as another tool in my work.

I'd love to have this book to read, because now that I am recoverED, I think it would help me to understand myself better. I'd also love for my fiancé to be able to read it and understand that part of my life better. I am constantly learning more about eating disorders, and want to be able to help others understand them and get rid of the stigma.

I want to use it as a tool to help people learn about EDs and not judge me or jump to conclusions about me. Ive lost 3 good friends to this ed because they don't get it. Maybe this book will help me explain to them some things and help rebuild our friendship.

I am recovering from anorexia; in fact I am eating an apple with peanut butter (the epitome of unsafe food) as I write this post. I blog a few times a week about my experience with my eating disorder and what I am doing to recovery (therapy, nutrition, etc). My intention in blogging is both to reflect and help me to eventually conquer the horrible monster that is anorexia, but I also aim to help others understand the disorder from my point of view, that is to learn about it from someone at the mercy of ED. This book would provide great insight into how other people perceive those of us dealing with anorexia and hopefully be another resource in my ongoing battle against the disease.

Harriet, I read your book "Feed Me" and continue to find it inspiring and grounding as I try to overcome body-image problems and an eating disorder.

Anyone who is interested in eating disorders or struggles with one themselves please read my blog and feel free to comment: http://anorexicswhocook.blogspot.com/

And . . . we have a winner! I numbered your comments and picked one out of a hat, literally. The winner was number 13, which is Sammy.

So Sammy, send me your mailing address and I will have Dr. Shepphird's book sent your way!

Congrats! And thanks to everyone else for entering. I hope you can find your way to a copy of the book somehow. I think it's quite interesting and offers a lot of useful information.
