Finally, some good news about fat

This blog post from Tara Parker-Pope discusses a study on the kinds of factors that affect how we visibly age. Make sure to look at the compelling slide show that goes along with it. It's a fascinating look at pairs of twins where one looks considerably older than the other. The study results suggest that smoking, sun exposure, depression, and weight loss all contribute to looking older.

Wow, I completely failed to guess which twin was supposed to look older before reading the captions.

"Good" news about fat?

I wouldn't like a headline that said there was good news about a characteristic because it made you look less fat, it would be promoting anti-fat attitudes. I don't like ageism any more than anti-fat attitudes. What's wrong with looking older?

I was being sarcastic, which I should know doesn't usually come off very well online. :)

I agree with you, BTW.

Looks ain't everything. Since I lost weight, I do look older, but the stress on my knees and hips makes me feel better. It evens out.

This is nothing new, BTW. The French have long said that after 40, a woman has to decide whether she cares about her face or her butt.

I guess the authors of this study couldn't find any male twins?

Or maybe it's only women who are supposed to care if they look older.
