Now THIS is fat activism
If you haven't heard about Kimberly Brittingham's in-your-face (literally) fativism project in New York City, check it out here. I love this woman's chutzpah! She created a fake book cover for a book called Fat Is Contagious: How Sitting Next to a Fat Person Can Make YOU Fat. Then she took her book on the New York City buses, opened it, and observed what happened. Which was, of course, both hilarious, poignant, and ultimately heartwarming. Take a look for yourself.
I'd love to hear about other fativism projects like this. Remember the Guerilla Grrls, anyone?

I do love her work. :)
The sad thing is that Meme Roth is going around saying the same thing as decidedly non-satirical... "Second Hand Obesity™"
Anyone remember a news story a few months ago claiming that being fat is a VIRUS? Oy gevalt.
As one of the only FA-community New Yorkers I've seen much of, I really need to ditch the subway, get on the bus and find her!
Me!Me!Me! Roth should get a signed copy.
I'm buying one and using it to cover whatever book I'm reading on the train to work. I haven't had any problems, but it *might* get a laugh or start a conversation.
Plus, the cars all have that stupid WW poster in them - "People Don't Fail. Diets do!" in huge print, with lots of tiny print under it and the WW info on the bottom. Gah. I'm going to print up some of Paul's fliers to paste over those, if I can do it without the conductor noticing.
Yes, I like to sit next to hungry supermodels and watch them inflate by osmosis. Hilarious stunt of fativism! Thanks for sharing this. I'm tempted to put your blog on my bloglinks :-)
