Keep Santa fat and feed the hungry

I have a feeling I've come to this story late here in the fatosphere . . . but no matter. Better late than never. Thanks to littlem for sending me the link to this awesome site.

Sign the petition there to Keep Santa Fat, and the keepers of the site will donate a pound of food to America's Second Harvest.

While you're at it, make your own donation. I hate to think of anyone going hungry, at this time of year or any other.

Seems the jolly old elf can't catch a break these days. Check this out...

Santas warned 'ho ho ho' offensive to women
Nov 14, 2007
SYDNEY (AFP) — Santas in Australia's largest city have been told not to use Father Christmas's traditional "ho ho ho" greeting because it may be offensive to women, it was reported Thursday.
Sydney's Santa Clauses have instead been instructed to say "ha ha ha" instead, the Daily Telegraph reported.
One disgruntled Santa told the newspaper a recruitment firm warned him not to use "ho ho ho" because it could frighten children and was too close to "ho", a US slang term for prostitute.
"Gimme a break," said Julie Gale, who runs the campaign against sexualising children called Kids Free 2B Kids.
"We are talking about little kids who do not understand that "ho, ho, ho" has any other connotation and nor should they," she told the Telegraph.
"Leave Santa alone."
A local spokesman for the US-based Westaff recruitment firm said it was "misleading" to say the company had banned Santa's traditional greeting and it was being left up to the discretion of the individual Santa himself.

Why can't people leave these things alone? It's a story, for heaven's sake. In Australia the thought police try to replace the Easter Bunny with the Bilby, a needle-nosed marsupial of no particular charm or merit besides being an Australian native.

What next? Will Goliath be downsized so as to not offend the vertically challenged?

I signed the petition.

I never thought I would see the day when people wanted to put Santa on a diet. Though my cat would support a "low carb" snack for the big guy that consisted of milk and a can of tuna. :)

Jane,
I nearly died laughing at that one. Thank you. Unbelievable!

It all makes me think of a Kurt Vonnegut story, set in a future time when egalitarianism had gone wild. So ballet dancers, for instance, had to dance with blindfolds and weights, because it wouldn't be fair if they were much more graceful than ordinary people. He took it to the extreme and made the point so well.

Only I guess the point is a little different this time, isn't it.

Yay!

Thanks for the shoutout. I first saw the petition on LaurieTobyEdison's blog.

I figured the New York Times writer, middle school genuine health facilitator, and highly talented author Harriet Brown would be an optimal choice to spread the word. :D

Happy Holidays to you and your lovely family.
