Want to hear a funny story? This radio commentary—on surviving my first tornado—ran on All Things Considered today. Let me know what you think.

I wondered if that was you! I loved it. Congratulations! On both the commentary AND on learning to live with the tornadoes.

Oops, you don't even know me--I'm a long-time lurker here and a big fan of yours. ;-)

Finally, I was able to listen!
I imagine it would be quite a shock to adjust to weather that can destroy everything. What on earth possessed you to move to the mid west? Can you tell I don't get much opportunity to travel? Ct. gives me all the excitement I can stand. I do heat waves and snowstorms...hurricanes make me nervous. Tornadoes, no thank you!

Harriet,

Very cute. Then again, I'm a life long midwesterner, so I have had waxing and waning tornado fears.

The Wizard of Oz music at the end though, totally made the piece.

I'm so glad you have these opportunities to share of your lovely self.

I heard that the other day and thought it was hilarious. I grew up in Minneapolis. When I heard the sirens I'd go outside with binoculars and/or a camera. Never got a good photo, though I did see a couple of them. Now that I live in North Carolina, we don't seem to have as many, and the only warnings are on the radio or TV.

Some of those storm chasers spend years trying to get the perfect tornado shot. Better them than me! You get more hurricanes than tornadoes in NC, don't you?

BTW, love your screen name.
