Join the fray . . .

over at BusinessWeek, where there's a somewhat spurious debate going on over whether the media causes eating disorders. Normally I try to stay away from arguments like this, but because it's BusinessWeek, a fairly respectable publication, I think it's worth it to put the point across. Be warned: There are some real trolls commenting over there, so don't visit if you're feeling fragile.

  1. I get too frustrated with all of the boneheaded comments to join in on these discussions real often. But I can't top your last two comments, Harriet, and so I will leave it at that.

  2. I would love to read your comments, but I know that I can't handle twatty comments now so I will just say that I am glad you are strong enough to be over there showing courage for the rest of us ! :D

  3. Your comments were pretty compelling too, Carrie.

I know it doesn't change the boneheads' minds. But maybe it does speak to someone who's just reading along.

  4. I do it (in part) because it just makes me feel better! :)

Hope the start of classes go well for you.

Nice job on the comments over there, Harriet and Carrie! I tossed one in too, for what it's worth.

  6. I had a tough time even believing that they published that article. It was like something I would have written in high school (in fact, I probably did).

Thanks for the articulate and cogent comments over there (Carrie and Jane too - Jane, the article on saints is very compelling). I clam up with indignation, so I'm glad clearer heads and untied tongues (well, fingers) prevail with you!

Thanks, Ali. I think anything that involves Walt Kaye's research is well worth reading. What an irritating string of comments over there though!
